Powertrain Control & Software
Today, software design constitutes a large part of the vehicle development process. The systems become more and more interconnected. In order to operate electric vehicles the use of sophisticated software is absolutely essential.
Energy storage is one key to e-mobility. The development of a suitable battery pack constitutes a great challenge in many respects. The cell, packaging and climate control have to be tailored to the particular electric vehicle.
High Voltage & Integration
Developing electric vehicles entails new challenges which require innovative technical solutions. One of the most important subjects is the power supply by means of a high-voltage battery pack. In this regard, safety is the most important aspect. A specific design of the high-voltage architecture is the basis for an appropriate wiring, the use of the correct power distribution unit and an efficient EMC concept. Furthermore, it is necessary to choose and integrate suitable hardware components.
Low Voltage & Interface
Besides the alternative type of drive, an electric vehicle also offers the opportunity to take a fresh look at the electrical system architecture. Developing a concept car means operating standard components with new functions and voltage distributions. For example, using an existing relay and fuse box does not represent an optimal solution. Moreover, interfaces for the new technology are missing.
Extensive testing is necessary to guarantee functionality, safety and durability of the designed product. In order to avoid that deficiencies are discovered only at the end of the development and then lead to an unnecessary increase of costs, specific tests are run after each stage of development. Based on the V-Model, all stages of development – from modular software tests (SiL) to final vehicle tests – are carefully completed.
Prototype build signifies the completion of the first development cycle. This decisive stage of concept development reveals the excellence and quality of the entire preparatory work. It becomes evident whether components and systems harmonize and if the targeted result will really be achieved.
